Mini Sessions

Thank you for considering us for your photos! We love putting mini photo session events together because they are a great way for you to get to know who we are, check out our style, and get a sampling of our work. We hope that you enjoy the creativity and fun we put into your mini session and that you will consider us for custom sessions in the future. This brief guide outlines what a mini session is, how we work, and why you should book a mini session with us. It also provides some tips on what to wear and a checklist to help you prepare for your session.

What is a Mini Session

For some, the thought of scheduling, and sitting for an hour or longer photoshoot is a daunting and slightly scary task. But it does not have to be! Enter the mini photo session.

A mini session is basically a fun-sized photoshoot! As the term implies, it is a very short photo session. While our normal custom photo sessions usually run 1-1.5 hours, our mini photo sessions generally run between 20 and 30 minutes. They include a location chosen by us (the photographer) and do not allow for any outfit changes. Mini sessions might also be themed, covering everything from holiday to seasonal shoots.

Mini sessions are fun, relaxed, and exciting – so be sure to get in on the action! We only offer a limited number of mini sessions each year, so you will want to book your space as soon as we announce a mini session event so that you can save your spot.

Five Reasons to book a mini session

one   Price – Because mini sessions are shorter, are limited to one location, and offer limited images, they are less expensive than a typical custom photo session. For families and individuals on a budget, this is a major win.

two   Shorter – Your time is valuable, and mini sessions do not cut into that time. With session times falling between 20 and 30 minutes, you can easily show up, smile, and hit the road for your next appointment! Shorter time slots can also be a bonus for families with babies, or individuals with other time constraints.

three  Theme – Mini photo session events are often themed, and themes make it easy for you to know what you are getting. Another benefit of themes is that we create the sets and provide all the props, which gives you something different and unique for your photos. For holiday-themed mini sessions, book your session to get a cute family photo for your holiday card!

four   Pre-Selected Location – The beauty of a mini session is its simplicity. You do not need to stress about choosing multiple locations, you simply rely on us and show up to your session. Couldn’t be easier!

five   Great time to update family photos – If you are simply looking to update your family photo or only need a few images, then a mini session is a great choice for you. You do not have to worry about choosing between hundreds of photos.

How to prepare for your session

The more prepared you are for the shoot, the better your photos will turn out. Here is a checklist to help you prep for your mini session.

Plan your outfit – and your family’s! When you plan your outfits ahead of time, you will not be scrambling the day of your session. Make sure everything is clean, wrinkle-free, and ready to go. This will allow you to feel more relaxed, which in turn makes for better photos.

Freshen up – you and the kids! Make sure hair is brushed, clothes are spot-free, and faces and hands are clean. Bring a brush and wipes along to the shoot, so you can easily manage those flyaway hairs and sticky fingers, if necessary.

Go to bed early the night before – and get some sleep! Feeling refreshed makes the photo session run more smoothly and results in better photos. Plus, happy and non-sleepy children make it easier to capture your little ones’ smiling faces.

Know your time – and arrive early! These are tight sessions, so it is important that clients arrive on-time or even early to benefit from the full session time and so that the we do not get behind.

Have fun and smile!

What to wear

Keep in mind that with a mini photo session, you will not have a clothing change. This makes it both easier and a little more difficult to choose your outfit. You want your clothing to express your personality and not distract from the main focus of the photo – you! Here are a few tips to help you find the perfect outfit for your mini session.

Choose an outfit you feel comfortable in. This includes wearing clothing that you do not have to adjust. If you are not comfortable, it will show.

For families, choose coordinating (but not matching) outfits. While matching outfits can come across as stiff and awkward, coordinating colors tie the entire photo together for a cohesive look.

Accessorize if it’s your thing. Your photos should show off your personality, so if a little bling is your thing, go for it. Make sure it is not too flashy, however, or it will become more of a distraction.

If there is a theme, dress to that theme. This not only ensures your photos stay within the spirit of the theme, it will also make the whole experience more fun.

Stay away from loud, busy patterns, as well as competing colors. Bright colors or dizzying prints are distracting. Neutrals are always a great option, as they keep the focus of the photo where it should be – on you and the family.
